End User License Agreement
Applies to AstroTools, AstroEye, and AstroDark desktop editions sold by MerrittMedia ("Bortle Labs"). App Store editions are governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Last updated 2026-09-06.
1. License, not sale
The software is licensed, not sold. Subject to this agreement, Bortle Labs grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the software.
2. Seats
Each license key activates each app on one machine at a time. You may deactivate a machine in the app and activate another. A Suite key activates each of the three desktop apps on one machine per app.
3. Trial
AstroTools and AstroEye include a 14-day free trial. After the trial the app continues to open and lets you browse your library and restore or export your data; pipeline features require a key.
4. Restrictions
You may not redistribute, sell, rent, sublicense, or share license keys; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software except where the law expressly permits; or use the software to build a competing product.
5. Your data
Your images and catalogs stay on your machines. The software never uploads them. The license server records only your purchase email, the key, the product, and an activation identifier per machine.
6. Updates
Bortle Labs may release updates at its discretion. Which updates are included with a license is stated on the pricing page at the time of purchase.
7. Refunds
Payments are processed by Stripe. Refund requests go to [email protected]; keys of refunded purchases are revoked.
8. Warranty and liability
The software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, Bortle Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost data or lost imaging time. Bortle Labs' total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the license.
9. Termination
This license ends if you breach it. On termination you must stop using the software and delete your copies.
10. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA.
